About Electrology
-
Electrolysis is a method of permanent hair removal that uses a small electric current to destroy the hair follicle's ability to grow hair. During the procedure, a tiny probe is inserted into the hair follicle, and an electric current is applied. This current either produces a chemical reaction (in the case of galvanic electrolysis) or generates heat (in the case of thermolysis), which disables the follicle and prevents future hair growth. Electrolysis is FDA-approved, safe, and effective for treating all skin and hair types, making it a popular choice for individuals seeking a long-term solution to unwanted hair.
-
Choosing electrolysis for hair removal offers several compelling benefits. First and foremost, it is the only FDA-approved, permanent hair removal method, making it a trusted solution for long-lasting results. Electrolysis is effective on all skin and hair types, including fine, coarse, light, and dark hair, which makes it versatile for a wide range of clients. Unlike temporary methods such as shaving or waxing, electrolysis targets the root of the hair follicle, ensuring that hair does not grow back. Additionally, the procedure is precise, safe, and minimally invasive. With customized treatments tailored to your specific needs, electrolysis provides a reliable, permanent solution for achieving smooth, hair-free skin.
-
The cost of electrolysis can vary depending on factors such as the treatment area, the amount of hair being treated. Smaller areas like the upper lip or eyebrows will take less time and therefore cost less. Larger areas such as the legs or back will take longer and therefore more.
We recommend scheduling a consultation, where we can assess your individual needs and provide a customized treatment plan.

Electrolysis is suitable for anyone looking for a permanent solution to unwanted hair, regardless of their age, gender, or skin type. It is effective for individuals with all hair colors and textures, from fine to coarse hair, and works well for both light and dark skin tones. People who may benefit from electrolysis include those with sensitive skin, individuals who struggle with ingrown hairs, or those who find temporary hair removal methods like shaving or waxing inconvenient or ineffective. Whether you're seeking to remove hair from your face, legs, underarms, bikini line, or other areas of the body, electrolysis offers a safe and reliable option for achieving smooth, long-lasting results.

Electrology works by inserting a probe directly into your hair follicles. Applying either Direct or Alternating Currents or a Blend of both, it causes destruction to the hair’s blood supply and germ cells to destroy the hair and prevent regrowth.
Galvanic, or Direct Current, works by applying the same electrology method used in the creation of Lye. It interacts with the salt water within the skin to create lye, which destroys the hair’s papilla and germ cells lining the hair’s root sheath.
Direct Current simply heats up the probe, which destroys the same tissue. However, on its own, without the Galvanic current, this can be less successful. This is why at Neko Electrology we primarily employ Galvanic or Blend.
Blend is a method in which to integrate the best of both Galvanic and Thermolysis techniques. This can help with sensation and speed up the process.

With any hair removal, there is always a possibility of damage. However, if done correctly in most cases no there should not be any lasting damage to the skin from electrolysis.
Redness, and irritation are normal for the first few hours or days after treatment. Sometimes bruising can other mild irritations can occur. However, with using Galvanic treatment, there is very low risk of any permanent skin damage. If exposed to bacteria and other irratents, often from creams and makeup, there is possibly of further irritation and skin issues, however, these are rare and easily avoided with proper post treatment care.

Clients should expect that all hair removal, electrology included, takes time. Clients should expect to come back at regular intervals to ensure optimal results until hair is fully removed.
The time required for electrology treatments varies depending on several factors, including the treatment area, hair density, hair growth cycle, and individual goals. All individuals are different, and your consultation will help us determine what is right for you. However, below is some of what you might expect based on other’s past results.
Factors Affecting Treatment Time
Size of the Treatment Area:
Small areas (e.g., upper lip, chin): 30 minutes to an hour per session.
Medium areas (e.g., underarms, bikini line): An hour or two per session.
Large areas such as face. An hour or two per session.
Hair Density:
Denser hair requires more time to treat since each follicle must be addressed individually.
Hair Growth Cycles:
Hair grows in three stages: anagen (growth), catagen (transition), and telogen (resting).
Only hairs in the anagen phase can be effectively treated, so multiple sessions are necessary to target all follicles as they enter this phase.
Treatment Tolerance:
Sessions are typically scheduled weekly or biweekly, depending on the individual's tolerance and the electrologist’s recommendations.
Typical Timeline
Initial Phase:
Weekly or biweekly treatments are common initially.
Maintenance Phase:
Once most of the hair has been permanently removed, touch-ups may be required every few weeks or months to address new or finer hair.
Total Duration
Small areas: A few months of regular treatments.
Larger areas: 1–3 years of regular treatments, depending on hair growth and individual factors.
Key Points
Each session's length and frequency will depend on your progress and the electrologist's evaluation.
Consistency is crucial for achieving permanent results.
Your electrologist can provide a more accurate timeline based on your specific needs during your consultation and throughout treatment.
